There is a tear at the bottom of the hanging scroll.

Born in Nijo Kawaracho, Takakura, Kyoto, as a child of a lacquer artist. His father was in and out of the Mitsui family, so he went to the family as an apprentice. When he was 11 years old, he was recognized by Takaki Mitsui (Izumi family) and Takahiro Mitsui (Minami family) for his skill in painting, and he became a disciple of Nakajima Raishō(中島来章) with the introduction of Takaki. On the other hand, he learns painting theory from Oda Kaisen(小田海僊).
1867 (Keio 3rd year) He moved to Edo. 1872 (Meiji 5) He studied oil painting with Yuichi Takahashi. In the same year, at the request of the Mitsui family, he drew a flat frame of “Kitsune no yomeiri(狐の嫁入り)” at Mimeguri Shrine. This painting does not exist, but it is a successful work of Tamaki. However, at that time he had a hard time living, and he even drew sketches and newspaper appendices. 1877 (Meiji 10) He received a reward at the 1st National Industrial Exhibition.
He founded the painting school Tenshindo(天真堂) in 1878 (Meiji 11) and was involved in the establishment of the Ryuikekai(龍池会) in 1879 (Meiji 12). In 1882 (Meiji 15), the 1st Domestic Painting Co-Promotion Society and in 1884 (Meiji 17), both received the Bronze Award and became prominent.
Around 1881 (Meiji 14), he opened the painting school “Tenshinsha(天眞舎)” in Fukagawa.
In 1890 (Meiji 23), Kakuzo Okakura (Tenshin) welcomed him to the Tokyo Fine Arts School as a teacher of the Maruyama school, and until 1912 (Taisho 1st year) he was mainly in charge of sketching for 22 years.
In 1891 (Meiji 24), when the Japan Youth Painting Association was established by painters one generation younger than Gyokusho, the office was set up in Gyokusho’s residence. June 30, 1896 (Meiji 29) Imperial Household Artist [2], 1897 (Meiji 30) Member of the Koshaji Preservation Society, 1898 (Meiji 31) Member of the Nihon Bijutsuin, Judge since the establishment of the sentence development serve. 1909 (Meiji 42) Established Kawabata School(川端画学校) of Painting in Koishikawa Shimotomi Saka Town.
