Utagawa kunimine is name ‘ Kunimine’ 国峰” in his signature.

When you purchase this hanging scroll, it has already been peeled off and turned into a poster.

Kunimine wanted to make Ukiyo-e. However, in the latter half of the Meiji era, machine woodblocks were imported and ukiyo-e declined.
Therefore, ukiyo-e artists created works according to exhibitions and customer requests.

The second son of Kunihisa Utagawa II, disciple. His mother is Kunisada’s daughter.
His real surname is Katsuta and his first name is Ginnosuke.he took on Utagawa as a surname, and also used the surname Kunimine(国峰),and,Baichourou(梅蝶楼),as an art name.
He is known for his illustrations for books and “tōsei shoseikatagi(当世書生気質)” during the Meiji era. He was in Kyoto and Osaka for a while and worked for newspapers such as the Osaka Mainichi Shimbun. He exhibited a work called “Haruno春野” at the 10th Japan Painting Association Exhibition in 1901 and won the second prize. He draws handwriting in his later years. He is 83 years old.
